El Nido is in the municipality of the northern province of Palawan in the Philippines. It lies in between the South China Sean from the west and the Sulu Sea from the east, it has a rich diversity of fauna and flora, as well as marine life.
The town of El Nido is located in the astonishing Bacuit Bay; a group of islands and islets, where the rock formation and limestones originated more than 200 millions years ago. The impressive limestones of El Nido and those belonging to Bacuit Bay are sedimentary rocks composed of skeleton’s fragments of marine life such as coral which is where all the dive sites are located.
How to get there
From Manila/Cebu to El Nido :
AirSWIFT offers direct flights from Manila or Cebu to El Nido and back.
From the San Jose Bus Terminal in Puerto Princesa you can take a RORO (Roll On Roll Off) or Cherry Bus. ROROs are basic and it is the cheapest Filipino mode of transport, however it is slow. It departs at several hours (please check in the terminal as schedules changes). It takes around 7 hours to arrive in El Nido. The Cherry Bus departs every two hours and most have aircon.
There are shuttle trips from Puerto Princesa to El Nido which last around 5 hours. You can book them in Puerto Princesa Airport, directly through your hotel or in San Jose Bus Terminal in Puerto Princesa.
Rent a car or motorbike
Much more expensive but more adventurous, you have the option to rent a car or motorbike in Puerto Princesa. It will take you 6 hours aproximately to arrive to El Nido. Keep in mind that the road is still under construction and the conditions are not perfect. There are different suppliers. Please feel free to google them.
From Manila to El Nido
There are some ferry lines which offer the trip, San Nicholas Lines (+632 243 2830) and Atienza Shipping Lines (+632-242 8845). We recommend this option only if you have a lot of time, as it takes around 3 days to get to El Nido and if you don’t mind about comfort as the trip can be very rough.
From Coron to El Nido
You can book only through any tour agency in El Nido or in Coron a Bangka Ferry. It lasts around 8 hours and depending on weather conditions it can be a rough trip.

Survival guide of El Nido
In El Nido there are two climate seasons; from November until May it's the dry season, being the months of April and May the sunniest and with better weather conditions for diving. From June to October it's the rainy season although it rains occasionally in the way of tropical storms and being the months of August and September the wettest one.The average of temperatures ranges between 22 and 31 degrees Celsius. So don't forget to bring sunscreen, proper clothes to absorb humidity, sunglasses and a pair of flip flops.Weather forecast
There is BPI bank with ATM's in El Nido where you can withdraw money. Also money changer shops, where you can change American Dollars and Euros. Anyway remind to withdraw money from any bank in Puerto Princesa or Manila or bring enough cash to enjoy your holidays. You can pay all your diving activities with credit card or cash.
Drink bottled or purified water. For any activity departing to Bacuit Bay, as Island Hoping or Scuba Diving, there is a 200Php Eco Tourism Development Fee from El Nido Municipality, which is valid for 10 days and that you can buy in the Tourism office or with us.
There is a Rural Health Unit in Lisang Street where primary and secondary care is provided. Medical City is a private health center, which can provide complex services. There are no Hospitals in El Nido. Also you can find some pharmacies in town but if you require any specific medication better you bring it from home. Hospitals are located in Puerto Princesa. The closest hyperbaric chamber is in Manila.
To move around El Nido you have three options: by foot, as the town is not really big, by Tricycle which you can find in any corner, or renting a motorbike in any rental shop.
There are no public telephones in El Nido. You can buy a prepaid sim card with Globe or Smart providers, which also offer 3G connection. WIFI Internet access with a rate of 2MBps in some establishments, so please, relax.
n El Nido you can find Post Office, Police (called Pulisya in Tagalog) and the Tourist Information Office, where you can get a map of the town.
