Enriched Air Specialty: dive longer, recover better

Enriched air, or Nitrox, is the most commonly used breathing gas by recreational divers after standard air. What makes it special? A higher oxygen content, which reduces nitrogen absorption and allows you to stay longer at certain depths — and recover faster between dives.

In just one day, under the supervision of a specialized PADI instructor, you will learn all the rules you need to know to dive safely with Nitrox. You will be able to analyze the oxygen percentage in a tank, understand the effects of enriched air on your body, plan your dives accordingly, and use this mixture effectively in practice.

Once certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver, you can dive with Nitrox worldwide — and fully enjoy Aquanaut's daily excursions in Bacuit Bay with reduced surface intervals and more energy between dives.

Important: This course is open to ages 12 and up. The minimum required level is PADI Open Water Diver (or PADI-recognized equivalent). No ocean dives are required to obtain this certification — the training is primarily theoretical and practical on land.

Ideal for:
  • Divers who want to maximize their bottom time during daily excursions
  • Those who make multiple dives per day and want to reduce their fatigue
  • Divers preparing for their Advanced Open Water or Deep Diver certification
  • Anyone wishing to understand breathing gases and their effects
  • Certified divers who want to enhance their PADI skill profile

Course objectives:

  1. Understand the composition and effects of enriched air (Nitrox) on the body
  2. Learn to analyze the oxygen content of a Nitrox tank
  3. Master dive planning with enriched mixtures
  4. Using Nitrox safely and effectively in real-world conditions

Learning outcomes — you will learn to:

  • Explain the advantages and limitations of Nitrox diving
  • Analyze an enriched air cylinder and verify its labeling
  • Calculate your maximum operating depth (MOD) based on the gas mixture used
  • Plan your dives with Nitrox tables or a compatible dive computer
  • Set your dive computer to Nitrox mode
  • Identify the risks associated with oxygen toxicity and prevent them

Equipment provided to participants

All participants have access to:
  • Nitrox cylinders for practical exercises
  • Oxygen analyzer for analysis exercises
  • PADI educational materials (Enriched Air Diver manual)
  • Full diving equipment if needed

Recommended personal equipment: a Nitrox-compatible dive computer. If you don't own one, we can provide you with one for the duration of the course.

Certification included:

PADI Enriched Air Diver certification (issued upon completion of the course)

This certification allows you to access:

  • Nitrox diving at all dive centers worldwide
  • Extended bottom times and reduced surface intervals
  • Earning a specialty credit towards your Master Scuba Diver rating
  • Improved understanding of breathing gases for your future training
